Sure, practicing yoga is all about health and wellness, but Smart Money knows that it is also booming business. There are some aspects of yoga class that may not be in keeping with the healthy lifestyle you seek — just don't expect your yoga instructor to let you in on them. Here are a few pointers for staying healthy while practicing yoga, and remember that even when taking a fitness class led by an instructor, it's best to think for yourself to figure out what feels right and what practices work best for you.

Dear Fit,
The holidays are fast approaching, and I wish I loved this time of year but I'm already stressed out about hosting Thanksgiving dinner, what to get for my picky in-laws, and dealing with traveling. I've heard yoga can help people relax, so I wanted to give it a try. A friend of mine says that she does a short session in the morning every day, including sun salutations (whatever those are), and a sequence of standing and seated yoga poses.

Occasionally, I come across a pair of yoga pant that I just never want to take off and lately Hatha Power Pant ($88) by Lucy have become my second skin. Made from Lucy's powermax fabric, a mixture of nylon and lycra, these pants are designed to manage the moisture that can accompany a sweaty yoga class. Wicking fabrics are important for yoga too.

The main reason many of us practice yoga is to increase our flexibility, and the last thing you'd expect is to pull a muscle. Unfortunately yoga injuries can and do happen just as easily as they do in other types of workouts, so keep these tips in mind to prevent yourself from getting hurt.

Where can I buy cute yoga clothes? I can't order online because it never fails that I have to ship items back two or three times until I get the correct size.
I'm starting my first group yoga class and I live in Harrisburg, PA, which has surprisingly little to offer in the way of places to buy yoga clothes.

A friend of mine just started working out with me regularly 3-4 times a week (hooray, a fitness buddy!), and I'd love to bring her gradually into yoga, since it's one of my favorite ways to tone and relax. She's never taken a class, and I am by no means an instructor, but if anyone can suggest a great beginner's dvd, it would be really helpful.
What are your best suggestions that will be an intro for someone just starting out but still give me that bit of challenge I enjoy?

Just in case you hadn't yet heard, Sri Pattabhi Jois, the man you created Ashtanga Yoga, passed away, at age 93. I'm saddened by the loss of this great teacher and am constantly inspired by his teachings and fire. I'm grateful for the lineage and the network of family and friends that he has created.

I want to learn yoga for a long time and I feel that now it's the right time. And I read yoga is good for lower back pain which would be amazing for me, I'm 17 and if generally at the end of the day I can't handle the pain, I just go to bed, it's worst when I exercise or stand up for long times straight or walk too much. I eat healthy but I almost only exercise two times a week (in class).
