I started doing yoga and love it! But the mats they provide are hell on my wrists and my knees. Everyone in the class uses two mats, one on top of the other. So I decided to buy one of my own.
Fit has mentioned that she loves the manduka mat for its thickness, but the price is very steep. So I have two I'm considering.
This one:

is even thicker than the manduka, but i know she said that sometimes thick mats are too soft . . .
Or this one:

Not as thick as the above (same thickness as manduka) but has a non-stick surface and pretty colors
If anyone has tried these or has any other suggestions please let me know!

I'm a huge fan of the Manduka mat. It's thick, but firm, so you don't have to worry about sinking into the material. I've had mine for over eight years and I can't practice yoga without it. Definitely worth the dough.
1I'm about to purchase my first Jade Mat. I love the Manduka but haven't caved yet to it. I've practiced on one though (a friend's who allowed me to try before buying my own). I'm just big on the Jade one that I've used.
I do change out my mat every 5-6 months due to all the classes I teach/take so I'm kind of skeptical about spending $$$$$ on a mat, obviously.
2I love my Jade mat...I can throw it in the washing machine, too; takes a few washings to get rid of the natural latex odor, though.....
3The manduka makes me want to buy a latex bed. Sooo comfy! If you don't want any give whatsoever, though I would recommend a thinner brand.
4I love this Jute mat, its thick and not sticky so if your hands start to sweat, you wont start to slip in downward dog http://www.europeanspayoga.com/products.php#
