Really though Yayita, don't knock it till you try it. Some classes can be very slow and spiritual (Kripalu), but others can be fast, fun, and very physically challenging (Ashtanga, Vinyasa).
Sometimes it depends on the teacher, so it sounds like you'd like one who would work you. That's what I like too.
I thought it was cultish and faddish (maybe better word) at first too, yayi, but it has worked better for me than any other form of exercise. ASHTANGA ALL THE WAY, BABY! I used to lift
weights, run, and do elliptical and never got anywhere.
Nothing kicks my but like an hour and a half Ashtanga yoga cass.. I challenge anyone to try it and tell me they didn't work every single muscle in their body. I've never sweat so much ion my
life. For real. It's amazing. You've gotta try it.
I don't do Yoga at the moment, but I used to practise Sivananda Yoga at home.
I found that when I focussed on the burn, I hardly got anywhere, but when I just tried to hold the pose comfortably, and waited until my body naturally went farther, I got a hell of a lot
better. After 2 1/2 months, my body was completely defined.
Shame I never kept it up, but I'm trying out kickboxing at the moment.
I do Ashtanga and I sweat like a crazy woman, not to mention my body is sore for a couple of days afterwards. It has helped me immensely by way of flexibility. I love it!
You need to add the choice of Hot Yoga. Granted its a lot like Bikram, but not restricted to the same moves over and over. We mainly use those poses, but we'll mix in other things such as Sun
Salutations and do some ab work.
Vinyasa rules!!!

I find it very weird and cultish
