I have recently been side-tracked in my yoga pratice due to an over-bearing schedule. I would rather participate in group yoga instead of alone at home, but I am unable to sign up for any classes because nothing in my area is available in my time frame.
Here is my burning question:
Have any of you bought and liked at-home yoga practices on DVD? I am at a loss as to what to buy because there are so many choices.
I have a list of several DVDs that I wish were available at the library to rent and try out, but of course they are not. Here they are: Crunch- Total Yoga; Element-Yoga for Beginners; Denise Austin Yoga Body Burn; MTV Power Yoga; The Method: Precision Yoga; SELF-Ultimate De-Stress Yoga; and lastly, Shape: Long, Lean and Strong.
FYI, I am content with a beginner video as long at it's challenging enough, but I practice at an intermediate level; I want something that isn't too slow (no meditative-type) and provides challenges in stretching and a variety of poses.

I swear by Rodney Yee. You can get his DVDs on Amazon but I also recommend checking out his website.. very inspirational. I have some beginner stuff and also a power yoga dvd that KICKS MY AZZ.
1Hey fashionhore, I too love Rodney Yee. I also really like the Kathy Smith yoga dvd I bought. It has a beginner level and a challenging level. I find both pretty tough! Good luck with your search.
2Thanks ladies. And Lucys you are back, woohoo!
3I actually just found my MTV Yoga vhs (so old) and tried it out and it was super quick. The person did like one breath per pose which is fine, but she didn't do very many "cycles" to make up for not holding the poses for very long.
I actually found out that my friend has a few of the videos I asked about above, so I am going to try each on out and report back.
4Ahahahah I have one of those old MTV aerobics workout VHS tapes somewhere in storage
5I just joined the group. I just puchased Yoga journal,s yoga step by yoga, it great. you could also sign up on yoga journal.com, they give all kinds information on yoga in addition to lots of positions.
6the dvd is Yoga journal,s step by step.
7I've been using David Swenson's Ashtanga Yoga short series DVD. It allows you to choose 15, 30, and 45 minute work-outs. You can then work up to the full primary series DVD.
8Rodney Yee is my favorite too. His Power Yoga DVD is the only thing keeping my body from turning into a mass of gooey fat.
9I have Baptiste's Power Vinyasa Yoga DVD as well. The exercise is really good but he talks too much for my taste.
I would suggest Bryan Kest's Power Yoga series, fast paced and never boring.

10See I just can't deal with Rodney Yee or Baptiste. I think I am in the minority on that one however.
I have yet to hear of Bryan Kest ... I will be checking that out later today! Thanks suebree96.
11You are welcome. He is eyes on the eyes too LOL so makes the workout that much more bearable.
12I finally found the time to test out one of my options to use before buying. I was fortunate enough to get Element Yoga for Beginners from the library a few weeks back. I was really excited about this one because I was able to find a little excerpt about it on Youtube and it looked to be a useful yoga DVD for just about anyone, and it is.
My only complaints with this yoga DVD is that it's more of a relaxing type of yoga practice. I like my yoga practices to be slightly fast-paced and challenging. However if you are looking for a relaxing yoga practice that still gets your heart up I would totally try this one out!
(If I had more time I would post a better outline of the DVD, but this will have to do for now!)
13Shiva Rea DVDs are the best in my opinion. I have a lot of diferent kind of yoga DVDs and since I bought those I totally forgot about the other ones
14Another vote for Shiva and Baron. I also like Johnny Kest, Bryan's brother.
Fwiw, I'm Yogafit trained and they've got some great dvds as well.
15I agree, practicing at home with videos of live yoga classes can help one maintain a consistent practice. I recently launched the first website to offer that.
