We've been talking a lot about yoga - mostly about the poses, but there is so much more to yoga than that. I'm dying to share my experiences, the good, the bad, the funny, and the embarrassing. So here we go. This was my 1st ever yoga experience...

In college, I shared an apartment with my dear friend Heather. I was studying for an Art History Exam (fun stuff) and heard this loud banging sound - boom booooom.
What the-? I jumped out of my cozy bed and ran to the living room.
There she was, Heather, upside down, doing a handstand against the wall. "What ARE you doing?"
"It's Yoga," she said plainly. "Wanna try?"
So I gave it a whirl (I'd do anything to help me procrastinate from studying), placed my hands close to the wall, and kicked my feet up. It was amazing. It was like being a kid.
I stood up, taking in the surge of energy from the blood rushing to my head and Heather said, "You want to come to a class with me?"
She didn't even need to ask.
I have to say though, when I did go to my first class, I couldn't even touch my toes. And it was really hard, but that's why I stuck with it. It challenged me both physically and mentally, and for that - Yoga completely changed who I am.
What was your 1st Yoga experience? It must have been good (or at least memorable) because here you are. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

3The Japanese have characterised states of mind that a warrior should be able to adopt in combat to facilitate victory. These include: an all-encompassing awareness, zanshin (literally "remaining spirit"), in which the practitioner is ready for anything, at any time; the spontaneity of mushin (literally "no mind") which allows immediate action without conscious thought; and a state of equanimity or imperturbability known as fudoshin (literally "immovable mind").
